About the one thing that makes me bless the memory of director-writer Anthony Minghella, who died today at the age of 54, is this film. Like other low-key but quirky love stories (Untamed Heart springs to mind), TMD is a secret favorite of women, the kind of movie boyfriends groan over - but listen, boys. It has Alan Rickman being perfectly annoying and perfectly lovable, and it has the always-appealing Juliet Stevenson running the gamut from grief and longing to wonder to tender renunciation... And so with her we arrive at the sober realization that love is only as finite as life...
